HARGEISA, (insidesomalia.org) - The leader of Somalia's breakaway region of Somaliland said the kidnapping of a German aid worker on Feb. 12 was organized in a small town near the port city of Bossaso, in the neighboring rival sub-state of Puntland.
Dahir Riyale told reporters in the region's capital Hargeisa on Sunday that the Somaliland administration has information on the kidnappers.
Five suspects were arrested last week in connection with kidnapping the aid worker for German Agro Aid in the outskirts of Erigavo, the provincial capital of Sanaag.
There was no comment from the Puntland government, but the two regions have fought bitterly several times over the disputed regions of Sool and Sanaag.
Mr. Riyale later flew to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an official trip and said he plans to visit unnamed countries after talks with Ethiopian government officials.
He refused to answer questions regarding his trip, but a local journalist told insidesomalia.org the Somaliland leader's trip might take him to Dubai where he plans to meet with foreign investors.
